Advised to go to NIA court in Bilaspur, CPI leader Karat met them in jail

Durg. Two Kerala nuns arrested from Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking and conversion have not got any relief from the court yet. First the lower court and now the session court has also rejected their bail plea. The court rejected the plea saying that the case comes under the purview of NIA Act, so they do not have the right to hear it. Now this case will go to NIA court in Bilaspur.

Arrested nun Preeti Mary, Vandana Francis and youth Sookman Mandavi of Chhattisgarh will be kept in jail for now. The court said that this case is related to human trafficking, so the police will have to complete the investigation within 15 days and take permission from the central government.

Let us tell you that on July 25, Bajrang Dal workers stopped these three at Durg railway station. They are accused of luring three tribal girls of Narayanpur district and taking them to Agra. It is alleged that the girls were to be converted. After sloganeering at the station, the activists handed them over to the GRP police, after which all three were sent to jail on judicial remand.

Meanwhile, senior CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat reached Durg Central Jail with a team of four MPs and met the nuns and the youth imprisoned there. Coming out of the jail, she said that the nuns have been framed, they have been beaten up and the police kept watching the spectacle.” She said that the girls are adults, they can go anywhere and do jobs. This action is against the Constitution.

Brinda Karat alleged that there is a rule of goons in Chhattisgarh and the dignity of humanity is being torn apart by this case. She has demanded withdrawal of the FIR and immediate release of the nuns. She said that this is a matter of shame for the country.
