New Delhi. On the seventh day of the 2025 Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, responding to questions regarding Operation Sindoor. He emphasized that no world leader attempted to halt the operation, underscoring it as a symbol of India’s military strength and resolute stance against terrorism.

Operation Sindoor: A Response to the Pahalgam Attack

PM Modi stated, “On April 22, while I was abroad, I received news of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. I returned immediately and convened a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). We issued clear instructions to deliver a decisive response to terrorism.” He revealed that the operation, launched on May 7, saw the Indian Army destroy terrorist hideouts in just 22 minutes, effectively bringing Pakistan to its knees.

‘Pakistan Pleaded for a Ceasefire’

The Prime Minister disclosed, “On the night of May 9 and the morning of May 10, our missiles struck Pakistan’s military targets. Subsequently, Pakistan reached out at the DGMO level, pleading for a ceasefire.” He clarified that the US Vice President attempted to contact him on May 9, but he was occupied with a meeting with the armed forces, and no conversation took place.

Countering Opposition Allegations

The opposition, particularly Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh, had raised questions about Operation Sindoor, citing claims by US President Donald Trump that he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. PM Modi refuted these, saying, “This is propaganda spread from across the border. No world leader spoke of stopping Operation Sindoor.” He urged the opposition to unite on matters of national security.

Contributions of Home and Defense Ministers

During the discussion, Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, he visited Srinagar and participated in CCS meetings, where the decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty was made. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated that Operation Sindoor achieved both military and diplomatic objectives, dismissing claims that it was halted under external pressure.

Opposition’s Demand and Significance of the Debate

The opposition had demanded a 16-hour special discussion on Operation Sindoor, with the Prime Minister personally responding. The debate, which began in the Lok Sabha on July 28, saw participation from Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. PM Modi’s address from 6 to 7 PM today in the Lok Sabha is being hailed as historic.

Global Impact of Operation Sindoor

The Prime Minister highlighted that the operation not only punished terrorists but also exposed Pakistan as a sponsor of terrorism on the global stage. He described it as a stellar demonstration of India’s ‘Made in India’ defense capabilities, showcasing the nation’s strength to the world.
